RE: ABA (American Bar Association) is -- who are they, again?

I want to address what is a board member of AFCC with a connection to a Law School in Minnesota (Nancy ver Steegh) doing on an ABA Commission on Domestic Violence Issues?

(rest of this post a case study on whassup with at joint physical custody task force in Minnesota, and how "primed" the mens' groups are of it, and (apart from some DV advocates) how IGNORANT of it (and unrepresented) were non-professionals from among noncustodial mothers or battered mothers.  Why?  The Crisis in the Courts group is not telling them about it, or alerting them to who's who in the field (i.e., Dumbing 'em Down)....

"JPC NOW"

The purpose of this wiki is to help make Shared Parenting - Joint Physical Custody a reality in the State of Minnesota. In 2008 the Minnesota legislature asked the judiciary to create a committee to study the effects of Joint Physical Custody. The study group was biased in its makeup and the results of the study are biased against the presumption of Joint Physical Custody.

Apart from this, there's more than meets the eye to the background (helpful to look up personnel, in other words).

I looked this up again, in association with the "center for parental responsibility' which was headed by a woman (Molly Olson), but a little background check on the group shows something of a groupie prompted by some family law members (prof?) AT the Wm. Mitchell College of Law (where Ms. Ver Steegh I believe holds an academic position associate dean or such -- fairly hefty position I should think -- ).

Center for Parental responsibility is a nonprofit that seems to have been formed with a PRIMARY agenda of getting a presumed joint custody law passed in Minnesota.  Minnesota (simultaneously) is home to some pretty high-profile and high-powered "Abuse Prevention Groups" 9in the industry (with HHS backing), i.e., DAIP (Duluth Abuse InterventionPrograms) MPDI, Battered Women's Justice Project (now in bed with AFCC theoretically and at conferences, as getting a grant to do a study supposedly on protecting women -- in the family courts???).  And more.

This is why sometimes you just have to know, look up, at least some groups and some personnel's membership in which groups -- to navigate a little.

SO I FOUND A WIKIGROUP FOR DISCUSSION OF "JPC" WHICH IS "JOINT PHYSICAL CUSTODY" GROUP: -- THEY WANT THIS LAW PASSED.

(from K4Cash) a number of articles were posted around batterers getting custody, parental alienation, domestic violence, etc. etc. on that topic.  In showing what this (scam) was, I pointed out they are all in the business or marketing -- either their services, or their products or both.  Sales.

One of the examples was from the ABA Commission on Domestic Violence.  Here are some materials sold (and I looked up the commission's board). Decided to put it here:

Information about the law and practice is sometimes less than helpful if the opposing attorney is on the take.  Information on how to tell whether they and the judge are, or are not, would be very helpful.  That information cannot come, I don't think, without thinking in terms of corps, business and sales etc.

ANYHOW, here's this Commission on Deomestic Violence formed in 1994, which was the first time VAWA was passed, loosening up federal funding which, I gather, is going primarily to the legal and training professions anyhow.

During this time in my marriage I was undergoing assaults, had no access to the internet (as I recall) and didn't know what I was missing that might've made those assaults fewer -- or stop.  however, once I got out and DID have this information, they could care squat about it in family court, oddly enough.  That was the beginning of my School of Hard Knocks which finally got me conscious about what business my own government has been in (all along).  SALES & INVESTMENTS.

I know that last post has very valuable information.  It also has pictures to symbolize the ideas and organize them around a concept.

VERY Good set of links, and broken up into better pieces than what I can post here for example, the word "PERSON" has a legal meaning, and could include a corporation, or an estate, or a trust.  it is a CONCEPT -- and we have to understand concepts well to understand and stop giving away our RIGHTS, or get them back when we have.  That understanding (plus a little history to match) is worth its weight in gold, which $$ these days are not, and haven't been for a long time redeemable in gold, either.  They are USA, Inc.-issued notes on the corporate debt.  In such situations, it's the shareholders -- and not the boards of directors -- that take the hardest hits when something goes belly-up.

the corp. turns everyone into legal fictions = PERSONS and converts our suits into civil actions, subject to the jurisdiction of the corporation, judges, and attorneys.

If Americans do not have access to courts without agreeing to be legal fictions, to be re-presented, which is LYING, by the way then what unalienable Rights are the courts, in fact, protecting? None! They are merely protecting the alleged privileges that they grant to fictional U.S. Citizens. Im working on this.

We just watched Olympics and admire the winners.  These winners train their minds (not just their muscles) and discipline them to stay focused on a goal.
"the people without a vision shall perish" (wander).  Right now, MINDS (thinking) is under attack through information overload, shock testing of the public and then measuring responses, etc.
USE it or LOSE it.
Failing to develop some kind of mental filing & labeling system (i.e. framework) for information that comes across your path -- is like just never housecleaning, never paying bills, or for that matter, entertaining strangers in the home indiscriminately.
In the Bible (which is a great system of language and symbols, metaphors, etc.) -- compares a man's mind to a "house,' and makes it clear it's a stronghold defended by a "strong man."

24If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. 27But no one can enter a strong mans house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house.

(CONTEXT:  http://esv.scripturetext.com/mark/3.htm speaking in parables.  note, his family thought he was nuts and tried to have him "seized" at this time, etc.)   the strong man referred to is a man's mind; deliverance, etc.  Kingdon/House // Satan (i.e. spiritual) // Strong man's house...  the power referred to is spiritual; the essence of a person....))

Matthew 12:44ff refers to multiple "inhabitants" in a person (in their mind, i.e.); if this is understood as concepts/ideas (i.e. figurative) we can see how a disorganized and conflicted mind could get screwed up -- because it has no basis for knowing WHICH reality is reality....  Characterization:

43When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished45Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

They had information available, but could not connect the dots; there was no structure, nothing in the "house" -- so anything could get in there.   Data sweeps in and out unrestricted, the door is open for business (etc.)

Something happened to a MINd here, would you say?  was this a planned shock-effect event?

DO YOU REALLY OWN YOUR CHILDREN?
Before you can truly attain the answer to this question though, and comprehend how it applies to you and your children, you must first temporarily suspend your emotion, your idealism, and your beliefs. For when we refer to law, these things do not apply. And when it is a corporation that writes these laws, morals, ethics, and values go out the window.  {{and you need to recognize that they are!}}

Anger though, for the purpose of the information you are about to receive, is permitted and requested

First of all, lets clarify that what we are about to see is the opinion of the court system. Courts do not offer judgment, only opinion. The justices (not judges) of the Supreme Court as well offer nothing but opinion, which then becomes what the BAR association considers to be Public Policy or public opinion. The BAR copyrights these opinions then misleadingly calls it the law.

The side effect of being a consenting citizen of the United States (corporation) is that these copyrighted codes are applied to you with what the U.S.CODE itself calls Prima Facie law (law which derives its authority from presumedconsent). Therefore, all branches of government technically operate under presumed law, meaning that the consent of the governed is automatically assumed in all legal matters and decisions based on court opinion.

This, unfortunately, applies to all contracts made with or on behalf of the state

And one of those contracts is called a Marriage License.

Yours and your spouses signature on that state-sanctioned and federally registered document signifies a consent-based contract between all three parties you, your spouse, and the State.

All I'm saying is, better figure this out sooner or later -- what is a legal person, and what's your identity when walking into a courtroom?
FYI:
When I go look up information, I am not just browsing, I either have a question I want answered, or more on a puzzling problem, or I am fact-checking a supposition, etc.  that's how patterns appear.  It's never idle or passive browsing without some goal or purpose in mind, although many suprising finds do show up.   I spent a long time going through TAGGS database and getting a sense of it, and of how organizations label themselves, then followed them out to their alleged corporate addresses.
When a friend showed me that what nonprofits were actually doing (per their tax returns) is acquiring real estate and other assets -- it turned out to be true.  And websites often lie about when some group was incorporated  . . . . .  particularly when they want to tell you what they are DOING instead of who they are.
For example, here's a hotshot domestic violence prevention group in San Francisco -- take a look at a single tax return: (just scroll down til you see the chart, and $11 million of revenue plus $36 million of assets).  Or you start to recognize an umbrella org. over an umbrella org over an umbrella org all distributing federal /state funding -- and you realize that the trickle down effect means that whoever is actually standing under the bottom umbrella hoping to get some actual service is instead protected from getting any REAL help not planned in the business structure (cf. NPLS // PLAN // LSC etc.).
Together, a picture is assembled that is starting to make more sense with each year and really, each month.  that's because my "house" is not empty and void; there is a sort and select procedure going on here.

I said what I had to -- that information in the red square will make a major difference -- if it's true, or untrue.  If it's true, then "all law is contract law" and ethics has absolutely nothing to do with anything.  What Jesus (sic) was saying above is, even Satan has rules, and couldn't stand if divided against himself.  he also described spiritual entitites seeking a "home."  For those who don't believe in spiritual matters, the word "spirit" comes from breath (i.e., inspire, perspire, conspire, respiration, EXpire etc.) and what comes from our breath is often WORDS, which contain ideas and associations.

BUT instead, the process of schooling (which most go through) is a process of being taught to submit to various kinds of authority (or rebel, as it may happen) and understand that life consists of boxes, being labeled according to someone else's value, and etc.  Time is intentionally wasted and dissociation/irrelevance is the rule.  Good preparation for the family court system, I guess!
The information going through that house (each of us responsible only for our own) has to have some filters and labels sorted, or it's bats in the belfry tomorrow by noon.  And you can be gaslit, kept in reactionary mode, disabled through confusion (human mind doesn't respond well to confusion), kept in stress mode through lack of closure (and fight/flight hormones get the situation further screwed up til the time a real fight or flight is needed, you don't. . . . . . ) and so forth.

Thanks to the marvels of modern media (and who owns it), it's possible to dispense the same message to wide audiences at once (and see responses).  thanks also to the federal welfare system, it's also possible (and legal at some point) to also isolate people in group situations and grill/interview/psychoanalyze them as well.  etc.
(use it or lose it)

ABA is a very large corporation.

If we do not understand (legally) what 'CORPORATION" (let alone "law") means -- and also economically -- then we don't understand what privatizing government services (i.e., the contracting out of so much of it means), we don't see what the "tax-exempt" for some and "low-income jobs paid in fake money (play debt-dollars) for most) means.   That most people* don't is no accident.

(*including plenty of white-collar professionals so busy working they didn't take time to, and haven't yet been forced to think about.  white-collar professionals are also worker-bees, just of a different kind, when so many of them are in the business of population control and measurements, or developing new technologies for that end -- and of course for waging war)

Understanding comes with wanting to understand (motivation), which is a personal choice I can't make for anyone else.  Want to get Ross, get revenge, or get free?  How about 'living free is the best revenge"??

Do you want to live around a whole population that doesn't mind being controlled, but is good about complaining, or do you want to help more people around you get free (not "get Ross") and then have a better life afterwards (potentially), or at least know that one was possible?

That's what my "pro bono" posts are for and that's what I want, I want company in freedom; I already know what the opposite looks, acts, and feels like -- and where it leads.   Disorganized ideas and concepts (not prioritized, not labeled) result in treading water, or running in circles.  Understand how others strategize, in part from history, in part from basic vocabulary... Put things in context.  Kids do this easily (younger= less indoctrinated, more observation), so I know adults who want to, can.

Here's the church, here's the steeple; open the doors....but where are the people?

From Musicians4Freedom. See first few paragraphs of that link, underneath a 1935 Mussolini quote about fascism:  However, they seem to understand the concept of a legal "Person."  As the wealthy already understand this (see "corporation," below and dual-tax system) -- it creates a win/lose relationship, or a profit/loss relationship between workers and corporations.

(scroll-down, scroll, scroll, browse, browse browse....don't get tripped out by the religious references)

Your birth certificate is just a Certificate of Title to the fictional entity, the U.S. citizen, just like you get for your car. Legally, you dont own the U.S. citizen, and legally you dont own your car. The corporation dba the US of A holds the title to both of them, and issues you a Certificate of Title for your car and a Certificate of Title for the U.S. citizen. A Certificate of Title is a receipt for the goods, just like youd get at a pawnshop. You dont own the goods, you just have a receipt for the goods, which the US corporation owns. In other words, the US corporation owns you because your parents gave you to the corporation when you were born.

Once you realize that you are having problems with the system, youll also need to realize that the police and everyone else are operating upon the presumption that you have CONSENTED to be a person, which is a corporation, a legal fiction and a ward of the State, basically. They treat we, the people, as their salvageable property.

Or, for example:

U.S. Persons are game pieces, just like in Monopoly

U.S. Persons are game pieces, just like in Monopoly

When the banksters print the Monopoly money, they use the tokens labor and property to back it up, otherwise known as, the full faith and credit of the American people. As the corporation prints money, the token becomes a debtor. In fact, every single dollar is debt

This is SO basic, but not enough people think about it (see pSilent Weapons for silent wars) or what's been done, like an identity-switch, when we CONSENT to certain things.  There was a pre-birth-certificate for kids era -- there was a fight against it to start with, but (like Conciliation Code) that fight was lost, and now we have birth certificates for everyone -- that's a legal status as shareholder in USA, Inc. -- which is a lousy corporation that loses its own money, and kids in its own systems, etc. . . . .

Why are the courts acting like collection agencies?  who IS this country?

The Unified Family Courts were unified to re-set the resonance to the Adoption and Foster Care industry which is paid in Federal dollars.  The federal government is notorious for losing track of billions (HUD) and/or Trillions (DoDefense) of its own money and not auditing what goes out.  HHS (which governs most of the family court matters as it distributes welfare, collects child support, does medicate, does social science demonstration projects on people based on their profiles, and hires an multitude of "standing armies" which can give the yay or nay on your future freedom, housing, family relationships, paycheck, etc. -- so it's an important DIVISION.

It's self-evident that NO ONE can track all the money going through all the courts to slush fund and shell groups  That's the point!!! But from what I can see over at HHS, they are getting more and more overt about it; like they know no one cares or bothers to check.  I wonder if ANYONE outside of government or nonprofits taking money from it, normally looks things up on TAGGS.hhs.gov and understand what that represents.

But how much it's really LOSING has not made news like HUD and DoD has.  However child support enforcement has been shown in the budget - -and it's around $4 billion per year apparatus, and a complicated formula of Federal/State incentives which is going to impact what your ATTORNEYS (Officers of the Court) are going to do if you hire one.

A CORPORATION is an INCORPORATED (Corpus means "body," as in "corpse," right?) so it gives an IDEA a "body" and that body gets to transact business, be bought and sold (including on the stock market), go bankrupt with its owners NOT going bankrupt unless criminal activity are invovled, and it provides a CLOAK (name, etc.) under which to do business such that only the truly motivated will know who they are dealing with, i.e. who is running the show.

A corporation can file bankruptcy and stick its creditors while the owners get away, re-incorporate etc. From the Philadelphia Inquirer (later? became a book, or was at this time):

The lucrative business of bankruptcy

In the surge of bankruptcies caused by heavy corporate debt in the '80s, the winners are high-priced consultants hired to close companies. The losers: Workers thrown out of their jobs.

Editor's note: The following story ran Oct. 21, 1991, on Day Two of the nine-day "America: What went wrong?" series published in the Inquirer.

It was May 22, 1990, Rosalind Webb's last day of work after more than 30 years at the Bonwit Teller store in Center City. The store was one of 14 Bonwit branches that were closing after Bonwit's parent company filed for bankruptcy protection.

That morning, Rosalind Webb did what she customarily did - she boarded the No. 48 bus at Allegheny Avenue and 29th Street in North Philadelphia and rode 25 minutes to her job in the shipping department of the store.

Somewhere aloft, Wilhelm Mallory, Steven Hochberg and Peter Dealy did what they customarily do, too.

Mallory flew from San Diego to New York, and billed a client $250 an hour for his travel. His associate, Dealy, flew from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, and billed $300 an hour. Hochberg flew from New York to Atlanta and charged $150 an hour for his time in the air.   Mallory billed $1,250 that day for his five-hour flight. That money - more than Rosalind Webb earned in three weeks - came out of the dwindling cash reserves of a floundering business that was eliminating Webb's job to save money.

Spoiler
Rosalind Webb, like millions of Americans, is snared in an economic shift in the United States in which the middle class is being squeezed and the ranks of the working poor are growing, while new jobs paying up to $500 an hour are being created for a select group of professionals - lawyers, accountants, bankers, investment advisers, brokers and management specialists.

  • Under "Silent Wars" (other thread) it talked about how education is being dumbed down so that most people don't learn the most important skills to understand how things work -- the sciences of math, economics, plus law and history (they do get the politically correct, values-sanitized version of history).  See above list...

For all this, you can thank a series of Congresses, presidents and the heads of regulatory and administrative agencies who, during the 1970s and '80s, rewrote the rules governing the tax and bankruptcy systems. These changes, along with Congress' failure to enact measures correcting growing inequities in the economy, benefited special interests at the expense of everyone else.

Consider Congress' handling of two issues - corporate debt and bankruptcy

While making sweeping revisions of the Internal Revenue Code throughout the 1980s, lawmakers agreed to leave intact a provision that allows corporations a virtually unlimited tax writeoff of interest paid on borrowed money. {{normal individuals pay tax on this... creates a wider gap}} This, even though corporate debt was ballooning to its highest level this century and was being used increasingly to buy and then dismantle companies, not to build them.

That decision followed an overhaul of the U. S. Bankruptcy Code in 1978 - the first revision in 40 years - that made bankruptcy easier for troubled businesses. Companies were given much more flexibility to stay in business while they attempted to resolve their financial problems.

The result: a bankruptcy code that encouraged an explosion in corporate bankruptcies brought on, in part, by an explosion in corporate debt that Congress failed to discourage through tax law revisions.

All this is incorporated in the government rule book, that agglomeration of laws and regulations that, through incentives and disincentives, sanctions and prohibitions, determines the course of the U.S. economy

~ ~ ~ ~AND THESE SAME REPORTERS (posted June 12, 2012) are apparently doing an update.  Good article, good points~ ~ ~

AMERICA'S TWO-CLASS TAX SYSTEM.  Records bear out that corporations and the wealthy live by  a completely different set of rules than everybody else.

Donald L. Barlett, left, and James B. Steele are revisiting "America: What Went Wrong," their landmark 1991 series in the Inquirer, in a new project with the Investigative Reporting Workshop. Over the next year, the project team will examine how four decades of public policy has shaped AmericaŽs ongoing economic crisis.

Over the next year, the project team will examine how four decades of public policy has shaped America's ongoing economic crisis.

/////

As these and other government statistics show, the United States has two tax systems: A flexible, preferential one for multinational corporations and the rich; a rigid, nonnegotiable one for working people. In other words, if you're not lucky enough to be a global business or a wealthy individual, you must pay pretty much what Congress dictates. If, however, you are among the privileged, well, your company makes billions for you and essentially operates tax-free.

Like others in Congress and the media, Cantor, Bachmann, and Pawlenty insist that American businesses are paying too much in corporate income tax. They claim the onerous tax burden is killing jobs and forcing companies to move abroad. To reverse the nation's fortunes, they say, all Washington need do is slash the corporate tax rate, thereby reducing the amount of taxes these businesses are forced to pay. What's scary is a growing number of citizens believe them.

That means a forecast made years ago by William J. Casey, a wily Republican from another era who liked to dabble in the intelligence world's black arts inside and outside the country, and who helped craft the election of Ronald Reagan, is coming true. After taking office, President Reagan installed Casey as head of the CIA in 1981. After his first staff meeting at the agency, Casey was quoted as saying:

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false."

...  ...  In short, corporate America does not come close to paying its fair share of government's cost. Nor, obviously, is it called upon to make any human sacrifice. As for all those hundreds of billions, they simply were and are added to the national debt, a tab that will be borne disproportionately by working Americans

Donald L. Barlett and James B. Steele are contributing editors at Vanity Fair. IN THIS PROCESS also CHILDREN are lost track of, particularly when it comes to foster care.

When you are dealing with people who understand the concept

of a legal entity // corporation (and you do not)

You lose.

There are many ways to get some understanding, none of which are reading- and thinking-free.  Understanding new (to you) concepts may also require  re-aligning and re-sorting your previous ASSumptions about who you were -- but it may also clarify why certain courts are treating you and your kids (us and our kids) like chattel.

I don't think complaining about bad personnel in the courts, or owned politicians is the point.  I think understanding who the courts ARE comes first:  JURSIDICTION....Also basic concepts like Money (notes on the US national debt), that war requires fund-raising, and that when an attorney is characterized as an "officer of the court"  -- whether good, bad, or ugly, that is exactly what they are.

We have to understand that as I can be an American CITIZEN on foreign soil, it's also possible to be a CITIZEN (legal entity/person) of a small district of land (Washington, D.C.) which is a municipal corporation CREATED IN 1871-- and which has no Congressional representation, and is NOT under the US Constitution (I believe ..??) -- while you are actually living in one or more of the United States of America.

At a certain legal level, depending on prior consents signed, we are (chattel) -- by signing, showing up to represent self in court, or by etc..  That you didn't know the consequences is your problem, not the other party's.

Board game of Monopoly with tokens and play money is a good illustration.  What we want is OFF the board -- particularly as it's fake money; it won't buy real food, clothing, shelter, water, or electricity, but it might land you in jail if you can't pay up, on a throw of the dice, too.

IN THIS GAME, REMOVING CHILDREN FROM PARENTS IS ROUTINE, AND SOME OF THESE KIDS REALLY ARE SOLD, IN THE WORST SENSE OF THE WORD -- AND USED TO BLACKMAIL CONGRESSMEN TO GET VARIOUS LAWS PASSED, WHICH DOES INDEED HAPPEN.  DO WE REALLY WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THIS KIND OF CORPORATION??

This comments field is another -- there is a "display" form, but underneath it's actually ruled by HTML.  If you are completely unaware of "HTML" mode -- that it exists, that can become frustrating (case in point). .. .

I have to check out the difference between 'CommonWealths' and 'States'...

Once you start looking the Grant Money is shocking.

And I don't want to overload the thread but... I did a random key word search

1st link  "State Board of Psychology - PA Homeland Security

You +1'd this publicly. Undo

 State Board of Psychology
Might as well check out PA. (Bet you knew I was gong to do that?)I'm afraid to look but...

Investigating grants is NOT good for the blood pressure.  I just realized today that CJH Grants Educational Services (which I long knew to be involved in the fatherhood business through Fathers & Families Coalition of America) was in NC and was helping these nonprofits UNDER the umbrella of FFCAi (many of which -- just telling the truth -- don't file their tax returns and nonprofit status right) -- get HHS Marriage and Fatherhood Grants.

I also know that many of the groups GETTING said grants were themselves basically HHS-initiated front groups (faith-based, yes, but not only) who took the money and run -- and because almost NO ONE in his/her right mind would follow (track them down), it was a surefire source of fraud, if not kickbacks.  I happen to be not in my "right mind" about many things (see children removed illegally overnight and kept that way through family court, after substantial child support arrears and previous income destruction by formerly violent husband who had an "attitude" about maintaining steady work, or finding a line of work which was h and could be done without a wife // doormat, since I wasn't around to prop him up in it any more), but know I'm right about this one.  Also he would have start kicking down his own doors, dogs, or women as I was not going to come within range for said behavior (all of which happened during "Holy Matrimony" til I found a way to throw him out and stop it).

What I hadn't noticed (simply hadn't got round to it yet) was that CJH Educational Grant Services, Inc. (of North Carolina -- and a SPONSORING ORGANIZATION of FFCA -- which basically facilitates the distribution of federal moneys to father-friendly and religious groups under any other name) -- - was ITSELF an HHS entity.  (see Taggs below -- it's "inaugural year" coincided with a federal compassion capital grant.  It was to serves as a CONDUIT ("intermediary") for distributing "Compassion" in the form of marriage education (downloadable, largely on-line and franchiseable for profit). . . .

Now, looking a little more closely -- which again, NO ONE in her right mind (and few working people) would be otherwise doing) at the website for CJH -- (Cynthia J. Harris in other words -- see below) -- lists the other grantees who were anointed (excuse me, "chosen") by HHS for this honorable position -- and I find one that we know to be a fraud under prosecution for -- HUD Fraud ,among other things.   (West Palm Beach Florida).

I felt this belonged somewhere near lawyers in general after I learned some of the pre-suicide real estate deals cut by convicted arsonist/attorney/Yale Law School graduate -- in the honorable state of Arizona -- surrounding his artificially inflated price $3+ million mansion. . . . . . .   And how THAT was also associated with helping a children's crisis center (Michael Marin, father of four grandfather of about three and now deceased). . . . . . . .

I've had a friend tell me that what nonprofits are, in fact, doing (many of them) is acquiring assets -- like real estate.  Family Violence Prevention Fund (now "futures without violence" in SF) has been doing this -- instead of helping LOCAL estranged spouses and kids stay alive.

OK, so in what world is a (fake?)(conduit?)("Shell" although using the word loosely as I'm NOT an attorney)("front") corporation from NC doing in the company with the honorable "Operation Blessing" founded by Pat Robertson (i.e., "M.G. Robertson") as in Christian Broadcasting Network, the 700 club and  (just found out below) 2009 retired dean of "Regents University" where we get more right-wing thinking as if there was a shortage?

( Just take a look underneath)

Found while looking up another Faith-Based Fraud Group in Florida (K4$$ topic).  It turns out attorneys make pretty great theologians too, particularly when you can be called BISHOP especially when God tells you directly to quit working and do this instead),

God helps you get real estate (19 acres prime waterfront) to build your Redemptive life Center WAY below market price ($600K versus $2.X million under contract), get grants ($1.7 million) to set up your faith-based corporation (Compassion Capital), have hobnobbed with the President, get HUD grants, get paid through a number of corporations taking federal grants, or controlling corporations which got federal construction grants which SHOULDA been bid out (but weren't) and have connections in city government (West Palm Beach, FL) and national government (Washington D.C.). . .

At least til a new housing inspector shows up in town and starts doing her job, for once -- and then demands explanation and some paperwork.  I'm talking about Bishop Howard Calvin Ray, and some associations with Bishop Eddie Long (not an attorney) and HIS association with African-American Marriage Promotion (Hampton University, Virginia) and people who have nice associations with the religious right, who like it to be known that they're not so racist after all (although the same can't be said of "sexist.").

_ _ _ _ (see posts, this date at Kids4cash) - - - - -of THREE (at least) HHS grants (compassion capital funding) to set up apparently shell corporations? (using the term loosely), in the series 90EJ00XX, I've found three instances where they are being hauled into court for fraud regarding those funds.  This gets interesting when the fraud is in the Governor's Office (Krista Sisterhen, Ohio Office of Faith Based Initiatives), or the owners is himself an attorney by trade and associated with an attorney who is going to help defend him on the fraud charges (Howard Calvin Ray // Will Gary) -- OR (3rd example, which brings me to) -- the nonprofit receiving this compassion capital funding JUST HAPPENS to be one of TWO (2) SPONSORING organizations -- of an expansive and expanding NATIONWIDE (US is divded up by regions by this nonprofit for easier conquest) -- NONPROFIT of NONPROFITS called "FATHERS AND FAMILIES COALITION OF AMERICA."

_ _ _ that's a mouthful, so I'll summarize again:

FAF was originally arizona (website was  "azffc.org") but if you go there it's clear that the TWO sponsoring organizations are:

1.  FATHERS RIGHTS (a corporation which is essentially, Jeffrey Leving, esq. - from Chicago -- fathers rights attorney with connections to Obama White House, and sponsor of him on the way there, apparently.  Well known to mothers in the DV industry as on the "other" side of their safety.

2.  CJH Educational Services (out of North Carolina) -- which seems to be heavily faith-based and a GRANTS-getter group.

Here's a link so you can go lookhttp://fathersandfamiliescoalition.org/ NOT a group to remain ignorant of:

SPONSORS (there are TWO, right?) click on either one or both:

fathers-rights.png

cjh.png

1.  The first one leads simply to Mr. Leving's page and is an advertisement for his services on the "ABOUT US" page.  So much for the "nonprofit" function -- helping Dads win their custody cases is a tax-exempt public service ???? or the nonprofit FFCA is a front for advertising and soliciting this -- and grants?

2.  The second one is self-explanatory (i've explored it before) -- it helps people get grants.  HHS has bent over backwards to help CJH Services get grants, I believe (see below chart):

INTERESTING CONCEPtS -- FATHERS' RIGHTS, CHILDREN's RIGHTS, WOMEN'S RIGHTS (CIVIL RIGHTS) -- how about "what's right" based in law?

1.   (if you click "fathers rights") & ABOUTUS

PASSION.  INTEGRITY. PERSEVERANCE.

We thank you for your interest in the Law Offices of Jeffery M. Leving, Ltd., and welcome you to learn more about the passion we have for our work and the strength of our practice areas.

Built upon our passion for the health and welfare of the family and for producing highly effective legal representation for fathers, the Law Offices of Jeffery M. Leving, Ltd., is a nationally-recognized family law and fathers rights advocacy firm with three core areas of client service:  family law, divorce and child custody.

{a little overlap, much?}

To protect our clients privacy and confidentiality, we refrain from offering legal guidance via the Internet or email. You are welcome to contact our offices by email to request general information (office hours, consultations, etc.).

NOTICE:  IT DOESN'T HAVE A LOGO (ON FFCA) READING "LAW OFFICES OF JEFFREY LEVING" BUT A LOGO "FATHERS' RIGHTS."  FAIR ENOUGH -- BUT FOR THE RECORD, HE'S A MEMBER OF THE ABA I'M SURE.

History of the nonprofit Fathers and Families Coalition of America (which as I recall, I haven't found the EIN# or tax returns of yet) was formed initially in Arizona by a whole bunch of statewide grants itself, to help low-income (only?) fathers.  Presumably overcome deeply entrenched institutional bias (from same institutions they were getting grants from -- like HHS etc.) also in the domestic relations courts -- which courts themselves exist only to discourage people from getting divorced originally ("conciliation courts") as narrated from their shady beginnings in the major port city of Los Angeles.

This is from TAGGS.hhs.gov (database):notice years, and nice hefty amounts.

HMM is a "Healthy Marriage Demonstration Program" grant (CFDA #93.086) awarded to CJH Educational Grant Services, Inc. (Raleigh) by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Family Assistance.  The five-year initiative (2006-2011) will serve 2000 youth and families in rural, northeastern North Carolina counties by:

  • Engaging in media campaign on the benefits of marriage to children and the community.

  • Promoting a high school curriculum and courses tailored to developing positive relationships, and

  • Partnering with local community networks and faith-based organizations (CBO/FBOs) and state agencies to:

Among the partners listed ("Resources/Partners) for HMM (once you get down past the links to HHS, HHS, and BUSH/HHS Marriage Initiative (which is to be funded from WELFARE), are other organizational names.

President Announces Welfare Reform Agenda

President Bushs Healthy Marriage Initiative
THE PRESIDENT: At the heart of all these proposals is a single commitment to return an ethic of work to an important place in all American lives. Secondly, we will work to strengthen marriage.* As we reduce welfare case loads, we must improve the lives of children. And the most effective, direct way to improve the lives of children is to encourage the stability of American families. (Applause.)

[actually promoting marriage in two-parent families was the 4th, not 2nd, TANF objective which became a 1st objective after people discovered how ready the grants system was for faith-based (among other) grantees, and how low the accountability for grantees from HHS/OIG....  I gather..]

(from the BUSH speech.....)

All you've got to hear is from the man I met today, Patrick [Patterson, ACF Region III], talk about the fatherhood initiative. He talked in compelling terms about what it's like to have dads want to be a dad; and when dad is reunited with their families, how vital and how real that person's life becomes and, more importantly, how hopeful the life becomes for the children.

He works for the Sisters of Charity Foundation on the fatherhood initiative. There are such initiatives throughout our society -- many in the faith community, by the way. Initiatives that ought to be supported by the federal government. And so, therefore, the bill that the House passed, that I proposed -- in my budget, I have $300 million on an annual basis to support education programs and counseling programs

(SOMEHOW the domestic violence agencies neglected (and still neglect) -- as do the legal aid pro bono nonprofits that sometimes help women get civil restraining orders -- to tell mothers about this funding and its likely impact on their lives as clients of said nonprofitits -- or as single mothers because married life was too dangerous....)

The American Bar Association is a Corporation.  It happens to be tax exempt -- which should not be confused with "unprofitable."
For some reason, Health and Human Services (HHS) database did NOT classify it as nonprofit here:

More than most americans can say -- things are looking up!

I think a browse if financial statements is helpful just as a consciousness-raising activity, even if one is not an accountant and doesn't know what all the vocabulary means.  Vocabulary can be learned and read; but even if you don't know it's exact (economic/accounting) definition at the time, at least it makes you aware certain things exists -- and it can be learned. For example, (see above figures):

ncome Taxes

The ABA, the JOB, the FJE and the Museum are qualified under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code (the IRC) as tax-exempt organizations or, in the case of the FJE, as a tax-exempt fund, and are exempt from tax on income related to their tax-exempt purposes under section 501(a) of the IRC. The ABA is exempt from income taxes as an association described in section 501(c)(6) of the IRCThe JOB is exempt under section 501(c)(2), and the FJE and the Museum are exempt under section 501(c)(3). Management believes there are no material uncertain tax positions that require recognition in the accompanying financial statements. While exempt from income tax under IRC section 501(a), the ABA is subject to tax on income unrelated to its exempt purposes, unless that income is otherwise excluded by the IRC. The tax years ended 2008, 2009 and 2010 are still open to audit for both federal and state purposes. There were no interest or penalties related to income taxes that have been accrued or recognize

SOURCES OF INCOME listed include:
  • Meeting Fees

Meeting fees for the current fiscal year are recognized when the meeting dates have occurred. Payments received for meetings being held in the next fiscal year are accounted for as deferred revenue.

  • Publications Revenue

The ABA publishes and distributes numerous magazines and books. Payment is requested in advance for all publications, except for publications sold to libraries and government agencies. Revenue is recorded when the invoice is issued; invoices are issued upon shipment.

  • Royalty Revenue

The ABA receives various royalties from other organizations. These royalties are primarily from membership benefits offered to members and staff of the ABA. The revenue is recognized when earned according to contractual agreements with each organization.

  • Grant Revenue

Grant activity is recorded as exchange transactions. Grant revenue is recognized when the expenses have been incurred for the purpose specified by the grantor. Payments received in advance of when expenses have incurred are initially recorded as deferred revenue.

 .. . .
  • NOTE D - INVESTMENTS

The ABAs consolidated long-term investments consist of $182,532,789 and $162,711,603 in mutual funds at August 31, 2011 and 2010, respectively.

Investment returns in each net asset category for the years ended August 31, 2011 and 2010, are as follows:

[you can look at it...]

  • **On September 15, 2011, the Executive Committee of the Board unanimously resolved to approve the sale of the building at 740 15th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. (the DC Building) for $69,250,000. Closing on the DC Building sale occurred on December 16, 2011. In connection with this event, on November 8, 2011, the ABA paid the outstanding principal balance of the related three 8.25% senior notes plus interest and a prepayment penalty.
  • On June 11, 2011, the Board approved the dissolution of the Museum, an Illinois not-for-profit corporation, and authorized the ABA General Counsels office to take such necessary and appropriate actions to discontinue the existence of the Museum. The Museum was subsequently dissolved on September 7, 2011.

**About CCJ The Conference of Chief Justices (CCJ) was founded in 1949 to provide an opportunity for the highest judicial officers of the states to meet and discuss matters of importance in improving the administration of justice, rules and methods of procedure, and the organization and operation of state courts and judicial systems, and to make recommendations and bring about improvements on such matters.
Membership in the Conference of Chief Justices consists of the highest judicial officer of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the territories of American Samoa, Guam and the Virgin Islands. The Conference of Chief Justices is governed by a Board of Directors and has several standing, temporary and special committees to assist the Conference in meeting its objectives.
In 1983, the Board of Directors voted to adopt a non-profit corporate form of organization.
Through resolutions, committees, and special task forces, CCJ has addressed such issues as federalism legislation, including mass torts, class actions, and the Trade legislation; violence against women; development of problem-solving courts, privacy and access to court records, self-represented litigation; the handling of child abuse and neglect cases; victims' rights; and DNA and competence of counsel.

  • Best Practices Institute (this is a joint project with COSCA, on which Zyggie Pines (PA) sits on the Board, and which produced our nice "AOPC" report responsive to complaints about the Lackawanna GAL system, Ms. Ross, etc.)
  • The Best Practices Institute identifies and promotes practices that enhance the effective administration of justice. The Institute was conceived by the Boards of the Conference of Chief Justices, the Conference of State Court Administrators ("COSCA") , and the National Center for State Courts following the 1999 National Conference on Public Trust and Confidence in the Justice System.  During the Conference, participants repeatedly voiced the need for a national effort to identify and champion best practices from across the country as part of a broad strategy to improve court performance and better serve the public.

    BPI Information Sources

The Institute provides information on best practices from four sources:**

...MJ Saks having been at Arizona State Univ keyed me off to look up his name.  the link is to a deposition where he is an expert witness in a criminal case (U.S. versus an individual) and gives his background as from Penn State:  "My undergraduate education was at Penn State. I then went to Ohio State University for my Ph.D. in experimental social psychology." [Can you see where I'm heading from this???] Boston College to be a psychology professor, although much of my research involved the law, the legal system, the legal process. So after about 10 years, I went to Yale Law School in their MSL program, not a JD program -- it's a one-year program for people from other fields -- and went back to Boston College after that. And not longafter that, I started being invited to teach at law schools. And after now about 20 years, I am here at Arizona State..."

[I happen to remember that Nicholas Cummings (see signature block) did a major grant to AZS to establish a psychology-related PhD program there...] -- any how, this POSITION is  very high placement for someone who is primarily interested in social science.

**The four sources of BPI information:   (see link) include:  Literature Searches, NCSC (that nonprofit, the 3rd bullet above), Expert Opinion, and Individual Jurisdictions.  For "expert opinion" one might as well write "literature searches" as most experts also WRITE (publish or perish) or they night be considered experts.

HENCE while this "Best Practices Institute (comprised of THREE entitites -- conferences of state & territory & DC TOp JUDICIAL OFFICIALS   && State COURT Adminsitrators, and a NATIONAL CENTER FOR STATE COURTS -- pretty well eliminates the "opinion on the street" -- and isn't seeking it either.

Centralization of the Experts.   Grrr!!  Non-experts need not apply - -and most won't because most don't even know these meetings, institutes, centers, and etc -- even exist!
